It was an ordinary night. My wife and I were sleeping in our room, cozily covered with a blanket.
Our six-year-old son and one-year-old daughter had long fallen asleep in their rooms.

Quiet, calm â nothing foretold trouble.
The clock showed around three in the morning when our Labrador, Semi, suddenly ran into the bedroom.
Heâs been with us for eight years â a smart, affectionate dog, a true family member.
He never caused trouble and always knew how to behave in the house.
But that night, he was different.
Semi rushed to the bed on my wifeâs side, placed his paws on her chest, and began to bark softly.
This behavior immediately made me uneasy.
My wife and I had strictly forbidden him from getting on the bed, and he always respected that. But now he was acting strangely and frighteningly.
I woke up abruptly, my heart pounding â in the dim light, I saw the dog looming over my wife.
For a split second, panic gripped me: whatâs happening?
But then I suddenly realized what was going on and quickly dialed emergency services đ˛đ˛
I heard a strange creak in the hallway and almost inaudible movement; I understood â it wasnât about the dog.
Semi stood between us and the door â as if he knew where the threat was coming from.
I immediately woke my wife, gestured for silence, tiptoed to the door, and heard another sound â someone quietly dragging their feet across the parquet floor.
I grabbed my phone instantly and called the police.
While the patrol was on the way, we hid with the kids in the bathroom â Semi stood guard at the door the entire time.
Seven minutes later â an eternity in that situation â we heard someone outside shout:
â âPolice! Everyone stay where you are!â
Two burglars were caught right inside our house.
It turned out they had broken in through the living room window, hoping to loot the house while everyone slept.
But they didnât count on one thing â our dog.
Semi became a true hero. If not for him, who knows how it would have ended.
We bought him a huge bone and the warmest blanket.
And now he sleeps by the door of our bedroom at night.
We donât even argue about it.
He is our true guardian.
