I Finally Took My Dream Vacation, Only to Find My Ex on the Same Island with His New Girlfriend—and He Had a Shocking Request for Me

I had dreamed of visiting Bali for as long as I could remember.

The clear blue waters, the lush jungles, and the serene temples — it all seemed too perfect to pass up.

After years of working long hours, dealing with endless responsibilities, I was finally able to make it happen.

This was my escape, my reward for all the sacrifices I had made.

When I arrived, I was in awe of the natural beauty surrounding me.

The beachside villa I had booked was everything I had hoped for—relaxing and tranquil, the perfect place to unwind.

I spent my days exploring the island, soaking up the culture, and my nights watching the sunsets while savoring the exotic flavors of Balinese cuisine.

But on my third day, everything changed. I had decided to visit a popular beach club to enjoy a cocktail by the water.

As I walked through the entrance, my heart stopped.

There, sitting at a table near the ocean, was none other than my ex, Julian.

He was holding hands with a woman I didn’t recognize.

They were laughing together, completely at ease. It was like a punch in the gut.

Julian and I had broken up over a year ago after five years together.

It had been a difficult breakup, full of unresolved emotions.

Though I had tried to move on, seeing him here, in this paradise, with someone else, felt like I had been hit with a wave I couldn’t avoid.

I stood frozen, hoping they wouldn’t spot me, but fate had other plans.

Julian’s gaze shifted toward me, and his eyes widened. His face immediately shifted from cheerful to startled.

The woman sitting with him, his new girlfriend, turned around and followed his line of sight.

I felt a flush of heat rise to my cheeks. Julian stood up quickly, his expression torn.

“Sophie? What are you doing here?” His voice carried a mix of surprise and guilt.

I couldn’t help the polite but strained smile that slipped onto my face. “Julian.

Fancy seeing you here. I’m just on vacation. Didn’t expect to run into you.”

He looked back at the woman beside him, then back to me, clearly uncomfortable.

“This is… Emma,” he said, introducing his new girlfriend. “Emma, this is Sophie, my ex.”

Emma offered a tight smile, her eyes flicking between me and Julian.

“Nice to meet you,” she said, though I could sense an edge of tension in her voice.

I nodded stiffly. “Nice to meet you, too.”

The silence stretched for a moment before Julian cleared his throat.

“Well… it’s good to see you, Sophie. I didn’t expect… this, but you’re here, and I’m here, so… maybe we should catch up?”

I stared at him, trying to process the awkwardness of it all.

What exactly did he want from me now? A conversation to catch up? After everything that had happened?

“Actually, Julian,” I said, forcing myself to stay calm, “I’m just here to relax, not to revisit the past. I don’t think there’s much to catch up on.”

But Julian’s face changed again. He looked almost desperate, and my heart skipped a beat. “Sophie, wait.

I know this is strange, but… would you be willing to spend some time with us?

You know, like… just for old times’ sake?”

I blinked, unsure I had heard him right. “Spend time with you? With both of you?”

He nodded quickly. “I know it sounds weird, but Emma and I were just talking, and… we thought it might help.

For everyone. I’ve been feeling like I need to resolve some things from the past before I move forward. Before we move forward, you know?”

The audacity of his request caught me off guard. “You want me to spend my vacation with you… and your new girlfriend… for closure? Is that what you’re asking?”

Julian’s expression softened, guilt flashing across his face. “I know it sounds ridiculous.

But Emma and I—well, we want to do things the right way. I want to start this new chapter without feeling like I’m leaving things unresolved with you.

Please, just a few days. We can all go to the temples together, have dinner, talk… It could be good for all of us. And, of course, you’ll have your own space.”

I felt a wave of anger rise in me. He was asking for a second chance to feel at peace with his actions, but at my expense.

A part of me wanted to say yes, to be the bigger person, but deep down, I knew that this wasn’t something I could do for him, not anymore.

“You know, Julian,” I said, my voice shaking with frustration, “you left me behind.

You made your choice. I didn’t get the closure I needed from you when you walked away, and now you want me to come help you, for you to feel better? You don’t get to make this my responsibility.”

Emma, who had been quietly watching the exchange, stepped forward.

“Maybe we’re asking a lot, but Julian’s right about one thing—things don’t have to be awkward.

You two were important to each other. We can make this trip something positive, for all of us.”

I shook my head, no longer able to hold in the disappointment. “This is your vacation too, Emma.

Don’t let him make it about something that’s over. I’m not a part of his new life anymore.”

There was a long pause as Julian’s face fell, the sadness creeping into his eyes. “I understand,” he said quietly. “I’m sorry, Sophie. I shouldn’t have asked.”

I turned away, my heart heavy but resolute. I didn’t need him to validate me or my feelings.

I was here to heal, to enjoy my time alone, and I wasn’t going to let my past dictate my present.

As I walked away, the sun began to set behind me, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink. I didn’t look back. It was time to let go completely.

The rest of my vacation passed in peace. I explored the island at my own pace, met new people, and found moments of solitude that filled me with peace.

Bali was everything I had hoped for and more—a place for me to truly heal.

As for Julian and Emma? They were no longer part of my story.

I had finally turned the page, and this chapter was mine to write, all on my own.
