I Thought I Was Helping My Friend Escape an Abusive Relationship, But She Stabbed Me in the Back in the Worst Way

When Marina showed up at my door one night, bruised and shaking, I didn’t hesitate.

She had been my best friend since college, and I had always known her relationship with Viktor was toxic.

The way he controlled her, isolated her, and made her feel worthless—I’d seen it all.

But no matter how many times I begged her to leave, she always made excuses.

Until that night.

“He’s going to kill me, Liana,” she whispered, her hands trembling as she clutched her overnight bag. “I finally left him. I can’t go back.”

I hugged her tightly. “You don’t have to. You can stay here as long as you need.”

For the next few weeks, I did everything I could to help Marina rebuild her life.

I helped her find a lawyer, set up a new phone number, and even looked into restraining orders. She had nowhere else to go, and I was happy to give her a safe place to stay.

But little did I know, I was welcoming a snake into my home.

At first, small things started going missing—money from my purse, a bracelet my grandmother had given me.

I brushed it off, thinking I had misplaced them. But then, I noticed how Marina started acting… strange.

She was always on her phone, whispering, locking herself in the bathroom for long calls.

One night, I woke up to the sound of hushed voices outside my bedroom door.

I crept toward the noise, my heart pounding. When I peeked through the small crack, my blood ran cold.

Marina was standing in my living room. And right in front of her—was Viktor.

They weren’t fighting. They weren’t arguing.

They were laughing.

I felt like the floor had been ripped from beneath me.

I stayed hidden, listening.

“She actually believes I left you,” Marina giggled, running a hand through her hair.

“She’s been feeding me, paying for everything. I even have access to her savings account.”

I slapped a hand over my mouth, holding back a scream.

“Good girl,” Viktor smirked, wrapping his arms around her waist.

“Take everything you can. Then we’ll disappear.”

My stomach twisted in disgust.

This had been a setup from the start.

She hadn’t left Viktor. She wasn’t a victim. She was working with him—playing the helpless act so I would take her in, support her, and give her access to my life.

I couldn’t stand there and do nothing.

I stepped into the room. “Get out.”

Marina jumped, spinning around. “Liana, I—”

“Save it,” I snapped. “I trusted you. I gave you a home. And the whole time, you were playing me?”

Viktor smirked, stepping toward me. “Calm down, sweetheart. No need to make this ugly.”

But I wasn’t scared anymore.

“I already called the police,” I lied. “They’ll be here any second.”

Marina’s eyes widened in panic. Viktor cursed under his breath.

“You’re insane,” she hissed.

“No, Marina,” I said, my voice cold. “You are.”

She hesitated, but when I picked up my phone and started dialing, Viktor grabbed her arm. “Let’s go.”

And just like that, they ran.

But karma wasn’t done with them yet.

Days later, I got a call from the police. They had arrested Viktor—for fraud, identity theft, and assault.

Apparently, I wasn’t their only victim. Marina had been helping him scam people for years.

And now, she was facing charges too.

I had almost lost everything because I trusted the wrong person.

But in the end, justice found them both.

And I? I learned a lesson I’d never forget.
